Palestinian Islamist group bands display of modern lingerie in Gaza Strip

In a bid to implement a more conservative society, the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, the group the controls Gaza, came up with new rules banning the display of modern lingerie in stores. These display include mannequins adorned with underwear or pictures of lingerie models that are displayed publicly in clothes shops.

The rules were said to have been implemented to protect “public morality” of the residents in the Strip. A couple of weeks ago, the organization prohibited women from smoking water pipes. Despite these new rulings, Hamas vehemently denied that it intends to implement the Islamic Sharia law in Gaza.

A statement from the group said that it is “absolutely forbidden” to play any photographic device inside clothing shops and also display revealing clothing at the front area of the shops. The group said that they have received increasing complaints from ordinary people and decided to act on it.
